Domestic violence
Domestic violence often affects women and children. Their own home is the most dangerous place for women. Every third woman in Europe is affected by physical, mental or sexual violence. Mental violence is difficult to detect. Violence has physical and emotional consequences!
Austria has laws for protection against violence in the neighbourhood, work and family. Physical, sexual and mental violence are prohibited.
Violence in education and the family is also forbidden. Acts of violence in the family can be legally punished.
Support for victims of violence
- Telephonic counselling offers telephonic support, sometimes around the clock.
- Women’s shelters are accommodations, where women and children, who are affected by violence, can be accommodated, protected and supported.
